MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 12: Union chemicals and fertilisers minister Suresh Prabhu today said the Union government was chalking out a long-term fertiliser policy and it would be finalised after adequate feedback from the general public.Prabhu told reporters here that the government was trying to induce owners of chemical and fertiliser plants to divert part of their business into production of evironmental friendly bio-fertilisers. The government was also exploring the idea of making use of soil waste piled up in municipal areas for production of bio-gas, he said.The human resource development ministry was also chalking out a proposal for vocational education in order to tackle the issue of large-scale unemployment, Prabhu said.A proposal to set up an information technology-related cell at Kudal to equip farmers to deal with the rapid strides taking place in the field of technology, was also being explored by the government, he said.On petro chemicals, he said India was not in a position to face international competition due to high power tariff and high interest rates. The government had to resolve the issue by developing infrastructure and taking the right steps to ensure that the country could face competition.
