PUNE, Nov 21: The Akurdi railway station now boasts of an imposing two-storeyed building with various facilities for the passengers and the railway staff.

The building on the east side of the station has four booking counters, separate waiting rooms for men and women, staff rooms for the employees, a main entrance hall, canteen, and separate offices for the assistant station master and the station master. The station was opened on January 26, 1984. Various developments have taken place since the significant growth of the residential area in Nigdi-Pradhikaran.

The booking office was shifted to the east side due to a demand by commuters organisations. Akurdi is the only station in Pimpri-Chinchwad to have such facilities. Over five thousand passengers travel daily from Akurdi. The revenue every month is nearly Rs five lakh. The present office of the station master is an old building located on the west side of the station.

Finishing touches are being given to the building constructed at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. The work took 4 months to complete.
