As peace talks between the seven-party alliance Government and Maoists get underway, a group of leaders are here from Nepal to mobilise support for major changes initiated by the new regime. Sources said the new dispensation was looking for a clear indication from the Indian Government on where it stood vis-a-vis the changes. The group, consisting of former foreign minister Chakra Bastola, PM G P Koirala’s nephew Shekhar Koirala and Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narasingha, have already met BJP president Rajnath Singh. He is learnt to have told the group that he was ‘‘deeply hurt’’ by the new government’s decision to do away with the Hindu identity of their country. Singh, according to sources, said: ‘‘Yours was the sole officially Hindu country, you should have let it be.’’The Nepali group has also met other leaders across the political spectrum.
