SURAT, May 18: The father of a boy who drowned at a private swimming pool more than 20 days ago today met the additional commissioner of police claiming that his son died because of criminal negligence on the part of the pool authorities. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter and expressed anger and dissatisfaction over the manner in which the Umra police was investigating the case.Gaurang Pratap Desai (15) had gone to Royal Park Resort swimming pool on the evening of April 26 along with two friends, Sandeep and Anoop, when he drowned. He was rushed to the Mission hospital, where doctors declared him dead on admission. In his written complaint to the police authorities which he made under section 154 (3) of the CrPC, Pratap Desai, the boy's father, named N R Meghani, the proprietor of Royal Resorts, Mohammedali Rajabali Panjwani, the manager and one Arvindbhai, the swimming pool instructor, as accused for having shown criminal negligence while on duty.He also said in the written letter to the police authorities that Umra PSI Karansinh Gohil, who is investigating the case, behaved rudely with him and was making practically no efforts to find out the real cause of his son's death.Additional Commissioner of Police H P Singh has initiated an inquiry into the incident. Talking to Express Newsline late in the evening, he said that the matter would be resolved soon.Desai said on Tuesday that while the instructor was not present around the pool when the boy - who was a learner - drowned, the police sub-inspector did not care one bit to pursue the matter.``The instructor and two other managers were sitting in a room far from the pool and did not care to save the child even when he was shouting. "And PSI Gohil told me that it is an accidental death and could happen to anyone. Is this the way the police department functions?'' he questioned. Desai alleged that Gohil was not investigating the case diligently as the hotel owners were influential.
