CHENNAI, SEPT 7: Creating new meet records in the women's discus throw and men's 400 metres run, international and National champion Neelam J Singh of RCF Kapurthala and Southern Railway's Manoj Lal respectively were in the spotlight on Day Two of the three-day 65th All India Inter-Railway Athletic Championships today.Neelam heaved the discus to a new best mark of 58.87 to erase her own meet record of 54.82. But she could not emulate the National mark of 60.28m. Harjeet Kaur and Sugan Yadev of Northern Railway won the silver and bronze respectively with marks of 55.54m and 51.62m in that order.Majoj Lal clocked a new meet best timing of 46.9 eclipsing Lijo David Thottan's standing record of 47.4m while winning the 400m run for men. He pulled off an upset pushing David of Southern Railway to second place. Lijo clocked 47. Prabhjot Singh of Norther Railway was placed third for the bronze, timing 47.5.Two other internationals Gulab Chand won the 1500 metres clocking 03:48.3 over Gurubagatti 03:49. 8 and Sivanand of South Central Railway 03:51.0 while Shakti Singh claimed the discus gold for men hurling the disc to 54.6 metres. Vipin Kumar, his Northern Railway colleague, was placed second (50.17) while Ishwar Singh of Western won the bronze 46.85m.Another international Beena Mol bagged the gold in the 400m run for women defeating her senior international Rosa Kutty to second place. Debi Bose placed third for the bronze. Beena clocked 53.5 and Rosa 54.2.Rosa Kutty also had the mortification of being pushed to second place in the 1500m run for women. She lost out to Western Railway's Molly Biju who won the gold clocking 04:26.4 to Rosa's 04:34.1. L Aruna Devi of Eastern Railway took the bronze in third place.Jaicy Thomas (Southern Railway) who took the high jump gold, Western Railway's Abdul Rasheed (pole vault), Pradeep Alok (decathlon gold) and Veerendra Poonia (hammer throw) were the other athletes who stole the limelight. Southern Railway's Gijo Baby won the gold in triple jump competition for men with the best leap of 15.18 over Sheik Mohideen (Southern) and K Kandaswamy (ICF) who took the silver and bronze, respectively.Southern Railway won the 4x100 metres relay gold for men clocking 41.9. Integral Coach Factory (ICF 42.1) and Central Railway (42.6) won the silver and bronze, respectively.
