India has emphasised on the need for various countries to exchange case studies of the various cases handled by them in making the food security system available to its population.

While inaugurating a five day Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) seminar on national food agencies, Food Minister Sharad Yadav urged the participants to look into the food handling system prevailing in the different countries. He also directed Indian delegates to share information on India’s success story relating to food procurement, movement, storage and quality control activities. He appealed to the participants to acquaint themselves with India’s success story on how India managed the recent drought. The minister also drew attention on the fact that India had put in position a food management system which was second only perhaps to China.

He also informed that the public distribution system in India cater to over six lakh fair price shops and the system makes affordable foodgrains available for all with special attention being paid to the daily wage earner besides the other vulnerable sections of the society. Yadav also briefly informed the role and activities of Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) as the implementing agency of the food security system.
