PUNE, Nov 26: Peeved over `improper presentation’ of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in the Hindi film Major Saab, NDA commandant vice-admiral Arun Prakash has asked the army hedquarters in Delhi to permanently ban film shootings in the academy.

The vice-admiral told newspersons here today that NDA was not happy with the manner in which “certain things were projected in the film”.

Briefing mediapersons about the passing out parade of NDA next month, the the commandant vice-admiral said he has written a letter to the army headquarters to ban the shootings.

The country’s premier inter-service training institution, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the Sahyadri range of Deccan, spreading over 8300 hectares with a rugged terrain and in-between Mutha river and Khadakwasla lake, is a favourite spot of filmakers who want to make films on the defence forces.

NDA has the distinction of being one of the finest institutions in the world to impart combined training to officer cadets ofthe army, navy and air force.

He, however, clarified that NDA might not have objections for those who wanted to make documentary films, as they could be given specific guidelines.

“But in case of commercial film-makers it is not possible to ensure that they will stick to prescribed guidelines and hence the NDA wants to close the doors to the film makers”.
