Mamata Banerjee’s political career may be in a mess but her literary career is chugging along. The Trinamool chief yesterday released two of her books at a function in Kolkata. The books, Anubhuti (Feeling) and Ashubha Sanket (Ominous Signs), were released by poet Nirendranath Chakrabarthy and novelist Nemai Bhattacharya. The former Railway minister has 13 books to her credit.‘‘I came here not because of the literary qualities of her books, I have not read any of them, but because I appreciate her honesty, courage and sympathy for the common man,’’ Chakrabarthy told The Indian Express. The poet said that he was a fan of Banerjee because she has always fought for the poor. ‘‘Success never went into her head,’’ he said. ‘‘She always maintains a simple living and keeps the interests of the poor in mind.’’Anubhuti is an account of the Bengal politics, of Banerjee’s relationship with the NDA government, how she felt ‘‘betrayed’’ on the Eastern Railway bifurcation when her protests were ignored. ‘‘She had been so frustrated. When her protests fell on deaf ears, she picked up the pen,’’ Trinamool general secretary Mukul Roy said.Ashubha Sanket talks about the changes that are taking place in the society and also the writer’s plea to make India a country free of corruption and crime.
