NDA allies in TN to fast against POTA

All the major constituents of the NDA in Tamil Nadu, excluding the BJP and its friends, today decided to observe a day’s fast in the district headquarters on March 29 to condemn the ‘‘misuse’’ of POTA in the state.

At a meeting convened by the DMK here, the parties, including the PMK, MDMK and the CPI, pointed out that the arrest of MDMK general secretary Vaiko and TDI president P. Nedumaran under POTA was against the assurance given by Deputy PM L.K. Advani in Parliament that the legislation would not be ‘‘misused’’. In a resolution, the parties said it was condemnable that the AIADMK had ‘‘misused’’ the Act ignoring the Centre’s assurance.
