The Congress high command has agreed to include Mickey Pacheco, the second NCP member, in the Pratapsinh Rane Cabinet, sparking resentment among its veterans.
“We got the green signal from our high command to include Pacheco in the Cabinet,” PCC president Ravi Naik said. His inclusion will take place before Saturday.
Pacheco, who was among the five MLAs who had resigned from the BJP to dislodge the Manohar Parrikar government in February, has already said he wants to contest the next Assembly election from a constituency held by the Congress. The NCP, which has only two members in Goa, has already bagged the deputy chief minister’s post besides plum portfolios.
The Congress witnessed angry scenes at the legislative party meeting where some members even threatened to resign if Pacheco is included in the Cabinet. Loyalist Jeetendra Deshprabhu, who among others, has been kept out of the ministry, has declared his intention to contest the Rajya Sabha elections due next month, against the official nominee.
