MUMBAI, JULY 22: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today began the process of selection of party candidates for the ensuing Lok Sabha and State Assembly polls in Maharashtra.

NCP sources said party president Sharad Pawar was conducting “preliminary interviews” of aspirants at A-10, official residence of Leader of Opposition in State Council and NCP State unit chief, Chhagan Bhujbal.

Hopefuls from areas in Vidarbha were being interviewed today, the sources said.

Meanwhile, welcoming the Election Commission’s decision to hold Maharashtra Assembly elections along with the Lok Sabha polls, Bhujbal said that the NCP was “fully geared” to face the ensuing polls.

He expressed confidence that NCP and allies would win over 35 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and would secure “an absolute majority in State Assembly polls”.
