.

The Andhra Pradesh government will allow Naxals to hold public meetings in Warrangal district, if they get legal permission to do so, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy said here today.

The People’s War Group (PWG) has decided to organise a ‘Martyrs Memorable Week’ in the state from July 28. On the first day of celebrations, a public meeting will be organised at Mogicherla village in which top Naxal leaders are likely to participate. The government will grant permission for the public meeting if PWG apply for it as they can also hold public meetings like other political parties, Reddy said.

The Home Minister, however, asked the Naxals not to carry any arms while participating in the meeting. The State Government has lifted the ban on PWG and its six frontal organisations on July 21, which was in force since last eight years. Lifting of the ban was one of the major demands of Naxals for creating conducive atmosphere for talks. The PWG emissaries, during a meeting with Reddy on July 20, had submitted a memorandum, announcing its intention to organise the public meeting. Signed by PWG state secretary Ramakrishna, North Telangana Special Zonal Committee (NTSZC) secretary Jampanna and Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) secretary Sudhakar, the memorandum said the PWG would organise a meeting at Mogicherla in Warrangal district, one of the Naxal-infested districts in Telangana region.
