On the second anniversary of Chhattisgarh, a bandh paralysed life in adivasi-dominated Bastar and Dantewara districts. The bandh call was given by Naxal outfit People’s War Group (PWG) to protest against neglect of tribal welfare. The Naxals are demanding creation of a Bastar state.
Reports said markets remained closed and roads were deserted. Naxalites also blocked some roads with boulders and uprooted trees. At Donapal in Dantewara, ultras attacked a police party when it tried to clear a blockade.
‘‘About 65 people were rounded up by police for their alleged links with the Naxalitis,’’ Additional DGP (Intelligence) Rajeev Mathur said. Naxalites have also forced nearly 180 sarpanches, janpad chiefs and panchayat representatives to resign en masse in the past two months.
In the capital, CM Ajit Jogi inaugurated an energy park. From today, people in three development blocks, including Jogi’s constituency of Marwahi, will get computerised records. At the anniversary bash, Opposition leaders were conspicuous by their absence.
