After remaining closed due to the threat of floods, the Nathpa-Jhakri hydel project resumed operation this morning only to be closed down later on the Union Power Ministry’s directive, it is learnt.
Three of the six units of the 1500-MW project had begun working this morning, but in the evening the authorities were asked by the ministry to close down and wait till Monday when the situation would be reviewed again, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Director Tarun Kapur said. Sources said the situation was reviewed by the Union Cabinet Secretary, and it was decided that no risk should be taken.
According to reports, the water level of the Pareechu had increased in the morning by about two feet, but later it became normal.
