April 6: National Society for Equal Opportunities for the Handicapped (NASEOH), Mumbai was honoured with GIC Housing sponsored `The Outstanding Institute’ award by the National Sports Club Of the Blind during their 8th Foundation Day celebration on April 4.

The institute, formed in 1968, has so far organised 15 state and four national level sports meet for the blind and handicaps since 1971.

Hemangi Dongaonkar of Nagpur was honoured with the `Most Outstanding Coach Award’. A physical education teacher for Blind Boys Institute, Nagpur for the last 16 years, Hemangi is at present the vice-president of Indian Blind Sports Association (Delhi). She was also appointed as a Special Advisor for the World Disabled Sports Meet held at Guwahati, Decenber last.

The `Most Outstanding Sportswoman Award’ went to Garima R Chauhan of the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NVIH), Dehra Dun. She has been invited for the National Coaching Camp for preparations to represent India in long jump at the WorldSports for the Blind to be held at Madrid (Spain) later this year.
