The Supreme Court today said that the rehabilitation of the Sardar Sarovar Dam oustees was a precondition to permit raising the height of the dam. The apex court gave two days time, to the governments of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and the Grievance Redressal Authority (GRA), to file affidavits regarding actual steps taken to rehabilitate the project affected families. ‘‘We want to see whether rehabilitation of the dam oustees was carried out actually or just on paper,’’ said a vacation bench comprising Justice N. Santosh Hegde and Justice S.N. Variava, while hearing a petition filed by Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) alleging that Narmada Control Authority (NCA) allowed raising of the height without proper rehabilitation.
