BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today exhorted Muslims to stop relying solely on the government for jobs.
Muslims should aim for progress by imbibing a spirit of nationalism instead of being dependent on reservations and concessions, he said at the National Minorities and Development Corporation meet.
Responding to demands for greater representation and reservation for poor Muslims at the meet, Naqvi said: ‘‘You should begin seeking employment in an ever-expanding private sphere and thereby involve yourselves in nation-building in a big way.’’
Corporation chairman Mian Mazhari had urged the Centre to ensure five per cent reservation for poor Muslims.
Minister of State for Social Justice Nagmani said the NDA ‘‘government has accomplished in the last five years, much more than what the Congress and others could for the welfare of the minorities’’.
The convention demanded appointment of a Muslim member in the National Backward Classes Finance Corporation
Naqvi said BJP has silenced the ‘‘so-called secular parties’’, which called it communal, by winning the recent elections on the plank of development.
