Social activist Medha Patkar on Tuesday visited trouble-torn Nandigram to get a first hand knowledge of the situation after the violence-ridden panchayat poll.
She first went to Maheshpur in Nandigram block 1, which saw maximum violence during the poll, and talked to people there.
She then visited the Nandigram hospital and talked to some of the patients who were injured in poll violence.
The protagonist of the Narmada Bachao Andolan later told reporters that the Left Front government should learn a lesson from the verdict the people in Nandigram have given through ballots against forcible acquisition of land for industry.
Patkar, who was accompanied by two other social activists, said their movement against the government’s land acquisition policy would continue till it was scrapped.
