Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Ram Naik has appealed to employees of public sector oil companies to withdraw their proposed strike on December 16 as this would cause great inconvenience to public and tarnish the image of oil sector.
The minister, who met some Union representatives, assured them that government was responsive and sympathetic to concerns of workers.
The unions have given a call for a one-day token strike on December 16 to express their strong opposition to government’s policy to disinvest some state-owned oil companies.
Naik said issues having wider ramifications for all PSUs would require detailed discussions at the highest level in government, an official release said.
He said since the issue of disinvestment of oil PSUs was before the Supreme Court, it would be desirable to wait for the verdict.
Naik stated that the impressive growth in the oil sector was achieved through hard work, commitment and co-operation of employees, adding the sector had a tradition of resolving disputes through discussions.
