NAGPUR, JULY 10: Activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) went on a rampage in the Nagpur University main office on Friday, shattering glass panes and damaging furniture and fixtures. They even roughed up a couple of police officers.

They were protesting against the alleged involvement of top university officials in the marklists and marks racket and demanding a CBI inquiry among other things. Neither the university authorities nor the police had any advance intimation of the morcha.

Around 1 pm, led by the NSUI state president Sanjay Rathod, about 40 youngsters stormed into the university office through the Maharajbagh road gate. Cries of `Yeh kaisi yuti sarkar hai; Chaprasi yahan registrar hai!” and `Vidyarthi lachar hai; Vishwavidyalaya choro ka bazar hai!’ rent the air as employees ran helter-skelter.

The youth also pelted Controller of Examinations’ chamber, Prakash Mistry.and glass was strewn as far as his desk. But nobody was hurt.
