AHMEDNAGAR, Nov 1: The Ahmednagar Cantonment Board (ACB) has been accused of mismanagement of more than Rs 1 crore during the past five years in the name of developmental works, maintenance and repairs.

In a statement issued in this connection, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president of Bhingar Unit, Balasaheb Nagpure charged the board with lack of foresightedness in its functioning. The works carried out were of low grade quality and lasted only for a temporary period. Moreover, the actual work carried out physically had to be verified. He appealed to the board to reveal details regarding the works carried out and the amount spent thereon during the past five years.

The maintenance and repair of roads worth Rs 8 lakh was undertaken by the board in March 99, but abruptly abandoned, he alleged. There were accusations against the ACB of corruption and malpractices, he said. The board had now asked for fresh tenders worth Rs 20 lakh for maintenance and repair works, he said.

Information regarding functioning of the ACB had been forwarded to Southern Command, Pune and an explanation had been sought from the ACB he said. The ACB has been warned of legal action in public interest for ensuring proper public works to stop flow of public money down the drain, he stated.
