MARCH 30: Nadeem Akhtar Saifee, music director and prime accused in Gulshan Kumar murder case, has moved an Indian court for the first time to defend himself.
In an application before a sessions court, Nadeem urged for a direction to Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd and MaxTouch Cellular phone services to provide a printout of certain telephone calls made during eight months from January 1997 on the basis of which he had been implicated.
Nadeem is now based in London, where he is fighting an extradition case filed by the Indian government. The sessions court has issued summons to the city Police Commissioner R H Mendonca to file a say in the matter, which will come up for hearing before the principal judge A S Aguiar on Tuesday.
In an application before sessions court, Nadeem prayed that the Mumbai police had filed papers in the court of Bowstreet magistrate involving him in the murder of audio king Gulshan Kumar. He said police had relied upon telephone records to show his participation in the crime.
