.

Sounding a discordant note at the very first meeting of the National Advisory Council, the members expressed disappointment at the Budget proposals and said the Government has failed to keep the promises made in the CMP.

Pointing to the little time they had to prepare this Budget, the Congress leadership is said to have assured the NAC members that ‘‘the CMP would be truly reflected in the Budget next year’’.

It was decided that NAC will prepare 10 papers — on education, health, manufacturing, women and child welfare, tribal affairs, science and technology, agriculture and employment — for discussion at the next meeting, scheduled for July 31.

The 12-member council met at the residence of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and later called on the PM at Race Course Road.
