With Bhutan claiming to have demolished all 30 camps run by Indian militants on its soil in Operation All Clear, Myanmar today promised to flush out Indian insurgents and assured that it would not allow terrorists to enter its territory.‘‘We will flush out Indian insurgent camps if any in our country,’’ Myanmar’s Foreign Minister U. Win Aung said.Myanmar’s offer comes in the wake of Bhutan’s ongoing operations against Indian insurgents. However, the country has been actively cooperating with the Indian Army since 1998 to flush out militants. While New Delhi has extended cooperation against insurgents operating in Myanmar, Yangon has reciprocated by conducting operations against Indian insurgents. In fact, last year India also sent across two large shipments of arms and ammunition to Myanmar including light artillery guns and ammunition.U. Win said they would oppose any attempts by Indian insurgents to cross into Myanmar in the wake of operations in Bhutan. ‘‘We have a policy of not allowing any insurgents to get into Myanmar, and we will take whatever action is necessary,’’ he said.External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said India had received ‘‘fullest assurance’’ from Myanmar, adding: ‘‘It is not a new commitment’’.The two foreign ministers along with their Thai counterpart Surakiart Sathirathai also discussed the $700-million trilateral highway project running through the three countries. They agreed that the first phase would include construction of all-weather approach lanes, rehabilitation and reconstruction of weak or distressed bridges and a detailed examination of a project on the Irawady river as well as a causeway.Sinha said that India would assume responsibility of the 78 km of new roads and missing links and 58 km of upgradation as part of the first phase. It would also like to take up additional 132 km of upgradation, subject to the approval of the Indian Government. India has agreed to prepare the detailed project report for the bridge on Irawady river and the causeway.Thailand would take up upgradation of 136 km and 62 km sectors of Phase I and another 100 km stretch as part of Phase II, he said.
