The Islamic seminary of Darul Uloom Deoband has ruled that a woman, who was allegedly raped by her father-in-law at Charthawal town in this district, could not be allowed to live with her husband any longer.

Mufti Habibur Rehman of Darul Uloom Deoband said in a “fatwa” that the woman’s living with her husband Noor Ilahi has become untenable as per the Islamic law, after the alleged rape.

The alleged rape took place on June 4 after which woman’s father-in-law Ali Mohammad was arrested.

Reacting to the fatwa, Imrana, who has been staying with her parents at Kukra village near here, said she had full faith in the Shariah.

Her husband Noor Ilahi said he would do as asked by the “fatwa”.Meanwhile, taking strong e exception to the fatwa, the All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board claimed the ruling was not in the light of the Quran.

“No tenet of Quran can justify the uncalled for decision and it has only added to the injustice done to the innocent victim,” board president Shiasta Amber told reporters in Lucknow. “The victim has all the right to continue with her marriage and live with her husband. She should not be unnecessarily punished,” she added.
