Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said on Tuesday that his military government was in no way influencing formation of a civilian coalition following the Oct 10 polls. ‘‘The political process is on and the government has no role in it,’’ he said.
Musharraf rejected as ‘‘baseless’’ reports that he discussed the stalemate over government formation with former PM Benazir Bhutto and denied charges that he had delayed the convening of Assembly to manoeuvre a pro-military government.
He said, ‘‘Some people are saying that it was by design or that I talked to Bhutto on telephone. These are wrong and baseless assertions.’’
Meanwhile, PPP on Monday laid down some conditions for joining hands with President Pervez Musharraf for the formation of government. The conditions include restoration of 1973 Constitution in the position as it was on October 12, 1999, legal framework order should not be made part of the Constitution, safe return of Benazir Bhutto and withdrawal of cases against her.
