DURBAN, DEC 30: Muttiah Muralitharan became the first Sri Lankan to take 300 wickets in Tests when Shaun Pollock was caught at silly point for 11. Fast bowler Pollock, the South African captain, reached 200 wickets on Thursday.

Muralitharan, playing in his 58th Test, reached 300 wickets faster than any other bowler except for former Australian pace great Dennis Lillee, who made it in 55 matches. He is the fastest spin bowler to reach the milestone, and the 17th cricketer to do so.
