The Jharkhand government today transferred two dozen senior officers in the state. This is the first major administrative reshuffle undertaken by Chief Minister Arjun Munda after he took over the reins of the government on March 18.
The notification was issued after the Chief Minister returned to Ranchi today from a three-day tour of New Delhi and Raipur.
The beneficiaries of the reshuffle are none other than Munda’s allies — Energy Minister Lalchand Mahato (Janata Dal-United) and Science and Technology Minister Samresh Singh (Independent). The two were among the six rebel ministers who had forced former chief minister Babulal Marandi to quit on March 16. Marandi was accommodated as BJP vice-president later.
While Mahato wanted Himani Pandey, Secretary, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, out, Singh had similar feelings for Debi Patra, Secretary, Science and Technology. While Pandey has been appointed Director, Social Welfare, Patra has swapped places with Rajbala Verma and is now Secretary, Cooperative and Registration.
Incidentally, this is Patra and Verma’s third transfer since the new state was formed on November 15, 2000.
