
November 30: Academic-toppers from across Mumbai were bestowed with the prestigious Catholic Association of Bombay (CAB) Awards for Academic Excellence at St Xavier’s College hall today.
The awards instituted by this oldest organisation is given for students irrespective of caste or creed, belonging to the 143 Catholic schools in the archdiocese of Mumbai.
In an interesting speech, chief guest Dr P Daniel, professor Department of Law, University of Mumbai, lamented that the present educational system encourages cramming but does not develop the mental faculties of a student.
“If you emulate great personalities, you could end up being poor imitators,” said financial expert Leila Athaide. “Success is not a list of goals to be checked out, but a journey. "We are endowed with certain talents which can be nurtured to enable us to reach our goals,” she stressed.
The Dr Ernest Borges-Dr Albert Heredia-Dr Anthony Sequeira Gold Medal and Cash prize instituted for the top girl and boy, was given jointly to Ashok Goyal of St Pius X High School in Mulund and Rahul Sanghavi of Fatima High School.
