MUMBAI, August 25: The Federation of Accommodation Industry of India (FAII) has paid rich tributes to the late K C Vazifdar. In a press release, it said the passing away of Vazifdar, a legendary expert on the Rent Act, who had written and spoken volumes on this controversial subject, has created an irreplaceable void in the accommodation industry.
Vox contest
A short story and poetry contest has been announced by Vox, an annual collection of new Indian fiction from the publishers of the Gentleman magazine. The contest offers Rs 15,000 for the best story and Rs 10,000 for the best poem. The last date for submission of entries is October 31, 1997. Workshop
A workshop and training course on advanced endoscopic techniques for major digestive diseases is being organised by the SMS Endoscopy Centre of the Bhatia General hospital along with the Jagjivanram Western Railway Hospital medical Officers’ Association on September 6 and 7. Professor Nib Soehendra, an eminent endoscopist from Hamburg University, Germany, and a host of specialists from all around the world will perform a live demonstration of endoscopic techniques and hold symposia for training doctors from India. WWF contest
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) for Nature-India will be celebrating `Wildlife Week’ with an exhibition on wildlife photographs at the Stuttgart Hall, Max Mueller Bhavan, in October. WWF-India has invited photography entries on wildlife from amateur and professional photographers till September 15. It will also conduct a workshop on wildlife on October 4 and 5.
Rizvi Fest
A week-long Rizvi Fest `97 was inaugurated last week by the world famous architect, planner and philosopher professor Balkrishna Doshi from Ahmedabad at the Rizvi College of Architecture.
In his address, Doshi said architects needed to learn from the rich tradition of Indian architecture. From his early work of constructing peons’ quarters in Ahmedabad to a township for Gujrat State Fertiliser Corporation, Doshi has attempted a synthesis of traditional and modern styles to create new and timeless architecture.
Awards scheme
n THE maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industry has invited entries for the M L Dahanukar Enterpreneurs’ Awards scheme, which has been initiated to encourage entrepreneurial skills and achievements of individual enterpreneures and small scale units in Maharashtra. The award distribution function will be organised by the chamber in Mumbai in the near future.
