MUMBAI, July 20: Employees of AIR and Doordarshan have decided to go on a 72-hour strike on July 22, which may be converted to an indefinite strike after reviewing the situation the next day. The Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti of AIR & DD technical employees association informed in a press release here that the strike is part of their ongoing agitation against the anti-employee recommendations of the fifth pay commission.

The Worldwide Fund for Nature-India is organising a two-day teacher training programme on 25 and 26 July at the Mahim Nature Park. To mark India’s 50 years of independence, Nehru Planetarium is organising a elocution competition for students of standard VIII and IX on August 16 from 9.30 am onwards at the Nehru planetarium. Each school has been asked to nominate two students for the contest before August 10, according to a press release. The topics include space science, atomic energy, medicine, agriculture and electronics.

A BMC rent collection receipt book number 881, containing 100 pages has been stolen from Subash Borade, rent collector of M-East ward. A police complaint has been lodged with Goregaon police station and members of the public are appealed to report any information regarding it to the civic authorities.

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) announced its first list of 14 candidates for the Bihar assembly polls, with its state unit chief Raju Tiwary and leader Hulas Pandey among the nominees. As per the seat-sharing arrangement, LJP (RV) will contest 29 seats, while BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each. The remaining 15 candidates will be announced soon.
