MUMBAI, December 7: The first batch of about 1,000 slumdwellers families from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park will be relocated in sites outside the park within a week, said Deputy Conservator of Forests A R Bharati, read a press note.

Priority in rehabilitation will be given to eligible residents of Matangadh and Azad Nagar bastis which were recently demolished, Bharati told a delegation of the Nivara Hakk Suraksha Samiti which met him on Friday, said P K Das, NHSS vice-president.

School circular

The Deputy Director of Education, Greater Mumbai has issued a circular to all schools which have won in ward level and zonal level co-curricular activities to participate in regional competitions simultaneously arranged at nine schools in Mumbai on December 8, said a press note.

Special trains

To clear the extra rush of passengers, the Western Railway has increased the frequency of its 975 dn/976 up Bandra Terminus-Jaipur-Bandra Terminus holiday special train from two days a week to four a week with effect from December 5. Accordingly, the train has been scheduled to depart from Bandra terminus at 3.10 pm on December 8, 9, 12, 13, 15 and 16 and reach Jaipur the next day at 2.15 pm. Similarly, the 976 up will depart from Jaipur at 12.05 pm and reach Bandra Terminus at 11.45 am the next day.

Competition

The Discovery of India exposition of the Nehru Centre will hold an elocution competition for college students of junior and senior colleges on January 17, 1998 from 11 am onwards. Each college can nominate five students and each elocution should last five minutes. The names of participants and the year they are studying in should be sent to Nivedita Sadwelkar, ground floor, Nehru Centre, Discovery of India building, Dr Annie Besant Road, Worli or fax to 497 3827 marked DOI elocution by January 10, 1998.
