MUMBAI, June 24: A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising chief justice M B Shah and justice Ranjana Desai today directed the BMC and the collector of Mumbai not to demolish any hutments at Ganesh Nagar in Kandivli and granted ad interim stay upto July two. The order was passed following a petition filed by the Ganesh Nagar Welfare Association which submitted that it had received prior threats that the slums are going to be demolished and that the BMC had kept about 20 bulldozers in that area. Advocate Monisha Coelho who appeared for the association also submitted that the slum dwellers had documentary evidence their names figure in the latest electoral list. It was also submitted that the BMC and the collector of mumbai in the past few days have demolished over 8,000 at the Birbiha Nagar at Kandivli., and that in the past when slums were demolished, alternate accommodation was not provided. She also submitted that these slum dwellers were residing here before January one, 1995.

Drug workshop

The Mumbai Drug Deaddiction centre of Excellence, depts of psychiatry, Seth G S Medical College and K E M Hospital and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare are organising a national workshop to evolve a harm minimisation programme in the Indian context on June 25, 26 and 27. This refers to strategies to decrease morbidity and mortality in the health, social and economic spheres resulting from drug use.

Auto tel system

The telephone fault booking service (XXX2198) of Malabar Hill telephone exchange (Codes: 361, 362, 363, 364, 367, 368 & 369) has been computerised w.e.f. June 23, 1997 by commissioning an automatic telephone complaint booking system. This system has no manual operation and is based on interactive voice response. A complainant after dialling respective exchange code followed by 2198 will get an announcement from the interactive voice response system and will be requested to dial the faulty telephone number.

Language classes

The Bombay Adult Education Association will be starting extension courses for beginners in different languages in `How to Start a Small Scale Industry, Acting on Stage and Screen, Accountancy, Catering Management, Proper investment in shares, Gemmology, Public Speaking etc” once a week from July 7.
