MUMBAI, June 24: In view of the escalating sugar prices, Shiv Sena MP from North-East Mumbai Madhukar Sarpotdar has appealed to Union Minister of state for Food and Civil Supplies Raghuvansh Prasad Singh to hike the quota of monthly releases of sugar. Attributing the price rise to limited allocation by the Centre, Sarpotdar has in a communique issued jointly with former FCI director Kanhaiyalal Gidwani suggested that the quota for the coming quarter (July-Sept) be fixed at least at 8 lakh tonnes per month. This, they claim, would prevent artificial scarcity and bring rates from the existing Rs 17 per kilo down to a reasonable level.Kerosene quotaChief Minister Manohar Joshi has directed the Food and Civil Supplies department to increase the ration quota of kerosene for families in Mumbai and Thane having two to three members.
