The first-ever Ladies’ Special commuter train in the world, started by the Western Railway in the city completed five years on Monday.

Indian Airlines has become the first Indian organisation to win the Pacific Area Travel Association’s (PATA) Gold Award and Grand Award for its best multi-media 1996 national marketing programme. A statement released here read the awards are given in recognition of exceptional achievements in the travel and tourism industry. PATA is the world’s largest tourism body representing the cream of travel and tourism industry from several countries including USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan, among others.

Naoroji award

Nani Palkhiwala has been awarded the Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Award for the year 1997, according to Adi Godrej, Chairman of the board of trustees of the Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Fund. Palkhiwala has been awarded for advancing Indian interests by his contribution towards public education, economic affairs and constitutional law. The award comprises a silver plaque and cash of Rs 25,000.

WWF sale

The World Wide Fund for Nature-India has organised a sale of camping gears, T-shirts, caps, rucksacks and sleeping bags at the WWF Nature Shop , Opposite Ambassador Hotel, Churchgate from May 5 to May 31, 1997.

Demonstration

In order to encourage creative art amongst people residing in the areas of Lalbaug and Parel, a social organisation Kala Gyan Prathisthan has organised a “Free Art Demonstration” on May 10 and 11, 1997 between 4 pm and 8 pm at Bawla Bldg No four, near Ganesh Talkies, D N Lad Marg, Chinchpokli (East), Mumbai.
