Ulhasnagar to get direct dialling
The Central Ministry for Telecommunications has finally agreed to implement a three-decade-old demand by Ulhasnagar residents for direct dialling to Mumbai. Orders to kick off the facility on August 15 will be released soon, it is learnt.

There are over 47,000 telephone subscribers in Ulhasnagar, and at present, residents have to make STD calls to connect up with Mumbai. In terms of sheer volume of calls, the township generates a great deal of revenue for the Department of Telecommunications. Interestingly, Titwala, which is beyond Ulhasnagar, already has direct dialling. Sources say the tremendous loss of revenue for the DoT was the hurdle preventing the ministry from accepting the demand till date.
