Theyyam fest at Dombivli
MUMBAI, April 28: The Kanur Friends Association had organised a Theyyam festival at the Dombivli Sports Complex on Sunday. The festival, celebrated to venerate local deities (Theyyams) in the villages of North Malabar (Kozhikode, Kasargod and Kannur districts of Kerala), has been organised for the first time in Maharashtra. Captain S Nair, chairperson of the Leela Group inaugurated the festival. The audience was held spellbound by the beautiful display by Theyyam dancers, Kalaripayyattu acrobats and Kolkali troupes which had come down from Kannur.

Workshop on marriage
A Dadar-based Avishkar Psychiatric clinic held a workshop at Ruia College to `prepare’ men and women for marriage. It was attended by nearly 20 men and women between 20 and 40 years. Explained consultant psychiatrist Dr Nirmala Rao who designed the workshop, "Unrealistic expectations take the form of wanting the spouse to fit into one’s ideas of an ideal mate. When physical intimacy is consideredquintessential and is lacking, there is a tendency to view marriage as a failure." The workshop focused on personality and communication patterns, values and factors responsible for the sustenance of marriage.

Gawli gangster nabbed
The city police nabbed a gangster Premshankar Dasraj Chaurasia (21), belonging to the Arun Gawli gang, last night at Kumbharwada in south Mumbai. Police sources said that the nabbed youth was involved in cases of assault, attempted murder and extortion and had been at large for the last two years. Acting on a tip-off that Chaurasia will be visiting the locality, the police waited and caught him when he showed up.

Workshop on schizophrenia
Prerana, an organization working for the promotion of mental health, is organizing its second meeting on careers of schizophrenic patients at Nehru Science Centre on Sunday. The workshop will develop improved modalities and strategies in schizophrenia management and form self-help groups and support groups for themanagement and treatment of schizophrenic patients.
