MUMBAI, JANUARY 19: Mumbai will take on JN Vyas University, Jodhpur, in the final of the All-India inter-university squash championship, sponsored by Switcher and Bank of Baroda, at CCI on Wednesday.

Xavier’s lift title

ST Xavier’s College blanked Mithibai 5-0 to clinch the maiden Mumbai University inter-collegiate women’s football title at School Sports Centre, Azad Maidan.

Loveena Figueiredo scored four goals, including a hat-trick, for the champions. Natasha Mendonca was the other scorer. Earlier in the hardlines, Narsee Monjee defeated BPCA 1-0, Koneru Gandha scoring.

Karandikar tops

Sanjay Karandikar is assured of title after five rounds of the Datamatics Cup 2000 chess tournament for the blind with a round to spare on Wednesday. In the fifth round, Karandikar defeated Joseph Demello to take his tally to five points. Irrespective of the sixth round result, Rajesh Oza (four) will not be able to prevent Karandikar from winning.

In the partially blind section, Swapnil Shah and Shirish Patil lead the table with four and a half points.

Kedkar stretched

Former National champion Arun Kedkar was extended by Nareh Jadhav 6-25, 22-8, 25-3 in the ninthDistrict carrom championship at Sharda Mangal Kridalaya, Naigaum.
