Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has asked his youth leaders to get ready for a “guerilla-like war” against the ruling BSP and organise protests in a way to avoid police playing spoilsport. “This war should force her (Mayawati) to run away,” he said.

Addressing a gathering of students at the party office on Thursday, exhorting the youth to take over the reins of the party, Mulayam said the time has come for Inquilab zindabad slogans. “The blood of students who lost their lives in our struggle recently, should not go waste,” he added.

He also said that he would no more like to hear the slogan, “jiska jalwa kayam hai / uska naam Mulayam hai”. “What jalwa (power)? If I had any power, my men would not have remained behind bars”, he said. He added: “We were not ready for the recent protests, but now agitations against the government should be carried out in a guerilla fashion, which is to fool the police to move forward and get ready to do and die”. Sharing a debate in the House with his youth leaders, he said, “I put the government in the dock on each issue without using unparliamentary language, which was appreciated by everyone.”

Mulayam, however, expressed his dejection for not getting the desired support from the youth. “As CM, I used to work long hours. You all said ‘Mulayam tum sangharsh karo / hum tumhare saath hain’, but you were not with me or we would not have been sitting in the Opposition benches.”
