
NEW DELHI, OCT 13: Production of the country8217;s largest car maker, Maruti Udyog MUL remained disrupted for the second consecutive day today with the agitating workers claiming that output came to a total halt from the first shift.
However, a Maruti spokesperson said production continued througout the day, but admitted that it was badly affected and only 25 per cent of the total normal production was realised during the day.
quot;The total car production was about 250-300 units today against normal production of about 1500 vehicles,quot; the spokesperson said. On the other hand, spokesperson and treasurer of the Maruti Udyog Employees Union MUEU G K Walia said quot;there was a total halt in production even today,quot; and added that there was no dispatch of vehicles from the company8217;s Guragaon plant.
The union said the Maruti management was sabotaging all efforts to sit at the negotiation table for resolving the matter. Meanwhile, the MUEU president Dinesh Kumar and general secretary Mathew Abraham, who were in police custody for the last six days, were released on bail on October 12.
The central trade unions are supporting the employees agitation and representatives of six unions including AITUC, INTUC and CITU met the Heavy Industries Minister Manohar Joshi yesterday and apprised him of the situation prevailing in the plant.
Various organisations like the District Lawyers Bar Association of Gurgaon, Kissan Sangharsh Samiti and Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee have also extended their support to the ongoing agitation.
The Maruti management had issued a notice on October 12 asking the workers to give a signed assurance that they would not indulge in any kind of agitational activities against the company. The workers, however, refused to sign the undertaking of good conduct following which they were not allowed entry into the plant, the union said.
