BANGKOK, MARCH 8: Naga rebel leader Thuingaleng Muivah, who attempted to flee a jail term in Thailand, was formally charged in criminal court on Wednesday, police and court officials said.

"The prosecutor charged him with using a fake passport and falsifying a visa stamp," Immigration police speaking on condition of anonymity told AFP.

Muivah, who is the general-secretary of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM), previously attempted to flee from Thailand to Singapore before his trial began.

He was caught en route to Singapore in southern Thailand. He was then charged with further offenses by a southern court and returned to Bangkok to have his long-awaited trial.
