With cellular market hotting up in Mumbai after the entry of Bharti as the fourth operator, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) on Friday said it would soon introduce new cellular tariff plan in mumbai.
“Our new plans are on the anvil and they will be more competitive than those existing. We will introduce various plans to match competition and ensure that our subscribers’ interest is protected,” Narinder Sharma, MTNL’s Chairman and Managing Director told PTI. MTNL’s cellular entry in Delhi triggered off a tariff war and brought down the prices considerably.
Stating that the plans would initially be introduced in Mumbai, Sharma said new plans would also be launched in Delhi subsequently.
Last month, Bharti group launched its cellular services in Mumbai and announced a slew of initiatives aimed at grabbing market share. Bharti’s entry in Mumbai triggered off a mobile tariff war in the metro.
The Sunil-Mittal promoted company had slashed the pulse rate to 30 seconds, while announcing waiver of roaming charges on calls placed through its airtel mobile network anywhere in the country. Bharti entered Mumbai as the fourth cellular operator after Orange, BPL and MTNL. As in June, the financial hub of the country had a subscriber base of 11.21 lakh.
