JAN 25: Despite the reduction in STD/ISD rates, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) today announced 31 per cent jump in net profit at Rs. 476.6 crore during October-December 2000 as against Rs 364.1 crore in the same period of last financial year.
"The company has registered a 30.89 per cent increase in net profit in the third quarter as compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous fiscal, in spite of tariff rebalancing and increase in establishment expenditure," MTNL statement said.
The overall increase in the net profit in the first nine months of 2000-01, went up by 28 per cent compared to same period last year. However, the company did not make the detailed figures for the current and previous fiscal available.
It said the income from the services in the third quarter had shown an increase of 20.48 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year. Income from services in the January-December 2000 period had increased by 18.57 per cent when compared to the year-earlier period.
The gross profit had increased by Rs 110.16 crore in the third quarter, an increase of 26.36 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 1999-2000. When compared to the previous quarter of the current fiscal, gross profit had registered an increase of 13.15 per cent, it added.

MUMBAI: Tata Infotech has recorded a 35 per cent increase in its net profit to Rs 8.38 crore for the quarter ended December 2000, up from Rs 1.87 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. Total income stands at Rs 135.67 crore, up from Rs 118.87 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The EPS for the third quarter is 4.56 as compared to 1.02 for the corresponding quarter last year. For the nine-month period ended December 2000, the company recorded a net profit of Rs 13.95 crores and total income of Rs 376.63 crore.
