The M S University (MSU) has initiated a dialogue with the Durham University to offer fellowship to its students from the departments of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Performing Arts.

“There is one Institute of Advanced studies at the university which has shown willingness in collaborating with Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Performing Arts of M S University,” said Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Goyal.

It was during Prof Goyal’s recent visit to the 175-year-old UK university that the thrust for dialogue between the two varsities was given. And soon enough, M S University received a mail, calling for fastening the dialogue.

“It can be said that M S University is as old as Durham University. Though the entire university came into being in 1949, some departments started coming up much before, even in 1882,” said Prof Goyal.

He said the communication between the Gaekwad family of Vadodara and Durham University served as a driving force for initiating this long-term project, adding that the two universities also boast of a similar culture.

He said M S University has also started communicating with the Oxford University, which set up a separate Hindi Department in 2005.

“Some initiatives were taken by Prof Manoj Soni (former M S University vice-chancellor). We intend to revive the dialogue for more fellowships,” said Prof Goyal.
