BHOPAL, MAY 17: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said the government might pardon the 1300 officers, including a few from IAS and IFS cadres, against whom show cause notices were issued for appointing daily wage workers in violation of rules.
Talking to newsmen here, Singh said the officers had been given notices for appointing more than 28,000 daily wagers in government service after January 1989 against the rules.
Asked what were the contents of the notice, he said they were asked as to why their payment should not be deducted in proportion to the government loss in the appointment of daily wagers by them.
"They should have shown the rules to the political bosses or sought their confirmation on the appointment of such employees," Singh said when pointed out that such appointments are usually done on the directions of the political bosses.
To a query whether action would be taken de-facto, the Chief Minister said it was for the government to either punish or pardon these offenders.
Singh said 25,800 daily wagers were sacked from government services, more than 3,000 others had sought court stay and the fate of more than 12,000 more daily wagers in the civic bodies and semi-government undertakings would be decided as per the court orders.
The court had directed that if the civic body or the institution did have more than 65 per cent of its budget spent on employees, the daily wagers coming above the limit of 65 per cent should be removed from service.
Singh admitted to have held talks in new Delhi yesterday with the former Chief Minister Motilal Vora and former Union Minister, Kamal Nath, who are opposing the idea of sacking of more than 28,000 daily wagers from government service.
Asked if he could convince them on his stand, Singh said, "There was nothing to show that they were not convinced."
