MUMBAI, July 20: The agitating motormen of the Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) stopped a WR suburban train at Bandra leading to a disruption in the services at about 8.20 pm today.
The motormen and other running staff of the WR and CR are agitating against the merger of pay scales, which they feel, will reduce their take-home salary by a considerable extent. An emergency meeting of the CR and WR Motormen’s Unity Forum held today at Bandra discussed the issue and said that the agitation will be intensified if the Union Railway Ministry did not respond favourably to their demands within four days.Chairman of the Forum and WR Employees’ Union S V Hardikar told Express Newsline that the stopping of a train only indicated the unity of employees of WR and CR. Services were however normalised soon though trains were running ten minutes behind schedule.
