PANCHKULA, JULY 25: Observing that the township's water requirement has long since outstripped the supply system's capacity, Citizens' Welfare Association president S. K. Nayyar has urged the Haryana Urban Development Authority to construct more water tanks.Nayyar recalled that in the early years, the township was supplied by four water tanks about 50 to 60 feet high, located in Sectors 1, 8, 6 and Industrial Area, Phase I.The tanks were filled with water pumped up from tubewells and this water was distributed to the Sectors after chlorination. The height of the tanks ensured that water pressure was sufficient to reach even those residing on top floors. In recent years, HUDA has adopted the practice of supplying water directly from tubewells after mixing chlorine. Nayyar said that this invariably results in inadequate water pressure which leads to the PVC pipes bursting at various places. As per the by-laws, HUDA is bound to ensure water supply up to the third floor. This is possible only if HUDA makes use of water tanks, as the tanks alone ensure proper water pressure as well as water supply, even during power shutdowns. The citizens' welfare association urged HUDA to build more overhead tanks in the township to guarantee proper water pressure as well as to ensure safe and clean water.
