A Western official in Kabul says that more than 100 militants attacked a small US base in northeastern Afghanistan over the weekend and that several breached the base.The official says several of the militants were able to get inside the outer wall of the US base in Kunar province during the attack Sunday that killed 9 American troops. The assault was the deadliest against US forces in more than three years.The official said the attack was a "concerted attempt to overrun" the US outpost by at least 100 militants, but that the insurgents were not able to take control of it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
