Minutes after India gave up the Test series to South Africa, coach Greg Chappell sounded a grim warning for some of India’s top batsmen, saying that the tour has thrown up “more questions than answers” and adding that a “few guys will be under pressure” now.BAD BATTING: That was a significant contribution to not winning the game, we probably failed to get as much we should have in the first innings. Between those periods, the game slipped away. The bowlers have done a pretty good job through the series. To miss out on the opportunity to win a series is disappointing. Our batting was disappointing in the last two Tests having won the first Test.SEHWAG & THE REST: Sehwag is certainly a concern, but I don’t think he is our only batting concern at the moment. We are just not getting enough consistent runs. We seem to be losing wickets in batches, which is something that you try and avoid when you are playing international cricket. Looking at the tour as a whole, there are more questions than answers. Over the next week or so, when we get back to India, we have a chance to digest what happened, discuss and debrief this one and look into the future, we are going to have to make some decisions on which direction we go and there will be a few guys under a bit of pressure, there is no doubt.SOURAV SAFE: He’s done a good job. He has done what he was chosen to do, which was to get runs. I think his performance yesterday in the difficult circumstances of having to be rushed in at the last minute was exceptional.AND ATTITUDE ALERT: I don’t wish to go into that now (whether attitude of a few senior players contributed to defeat). This is not the place for me to discuss that situation. I have to go back and report to the board and the selectors, and that will be discussed over the next few weeks.
