MUMBAI, June 18: The standing committee of the Thane Municipal Corporation at its meeting today passed a resolution giving it administrative powers to sanction civic works to the tune of Rs 50 lakh.
In today’s meeting, municipal commissioner T Chandrashekar initiated a discussion on this issue. In the civic act, the standing committee has been empowered to sanction work of any value, but it does not have the administrative power to do so. This power rested with the general body alone, he said. He justified the proposal, saying the general body met only ten times in a year and civic works suffered for want of its sanction.
Hence, the standing committee should be given powers to sanction works upto Rs 50 lakh.
